Man's Best Friend(s)

If you ever wanted to speak to someone who makes you feel like jumping on the nearest motorcycle or out of an airplane… Jake Richmond is your guy. And we don’t mean that negatively! Jake “Kid” Richmond lives his life according to a high-octane ethos, someone who can energize you in a five-minute phone call and spur you out of your comfort zone. He’s lived a life on the edge, a professional stuntman with 21 years of action under his belt. He’s no stranger to an adrenaline-pumping, good time. We chatted with him about how his passion for adventure translates to his love of SUPER73, and how he’s taking his dog along for the ride.

Things Get Two-Wheel

“I went to jail once. Not sure if you want to mention that,” Jake says like he’s discussing the weather.

Turns out, rebellion was always in his blood. He grew up on a small farm on the East Coast with plenty to ride, from tractors to four-wheelers. It wasn’t long before he became obsessed with motorcycles and stunting, turning it into a full-fledged career (after he was arrested for doing tricks in the street of course).

“It became my main hobby. Every year I’d try to get my hands on a new two-wheeler whether it was a Ducati or some other kind of powerful street production bike, but it wasn’t until Watson came along that I got my first real introduction to the world of ebikes and SUPER73.”

Elementary, My Dear Watson

We see a lot of cute dogs here at SUPER, but Watson is a totally different breed. Jake and his partner got their Australian Labradoodle in 2020 during the height of COVID and have since incorporated him into their everyday life in some pretty colorful ways. If you follow our community page, you’ve probably seen Watson riding with Jake, his fur dyed in an array of flamboyant hues.

“I wanted Watson by my side constantly and it felt less practical with a motorcycle. I had always liked SUPER73 as a brand because of their cool aesthetic, but started to get serious about getting one once I realized I could stick Watson in a sidecar on rides,”

The rest is history! One SUPER73 quickly turned into two and both Jake and Watson became full-fledged Squad members.

“Watson rides in the Earth + Kin trailer and absolutely loves it. It’s more calm and quiet than a motorcycle ride and keeps him contained in a way that was difficult before”, Jake says. “The trailers are well-made and easy to alter which is a plus for someone like me who likes to customize,”

Becoming a SUPER Fan

When asked what makes him such an active member of the SUPER73 community, Jake doesn’t hesitate.

“Listen, it’s a moto priority to look good. And SUPERS definitely are the coolest-looking ebikes on the market. But, beyond that, I quickly discovered a huge and diverse online community full of really cool and supportive people”.

Jake goes on to say that SUPER73’s capacity for aftermarket support and the creativity it inspires have been especially motivating.

“Everyone makes something for these bikes and it’s cool to see that encouraged and highlighted. There’s a lot of flexibility in how your bike can look because of the quality of available accessories and add-ons,”

He owns both an S Adventure and R-Series model that he enjoys ripping around beautiful Utah.

“You can’t beat the suspension and that cafe racer seat! Plus, the shocks are so sexy!”

We reached out to Watson for additional thoughts on the bike but unfortunately can’t understand a word he says. It’s easy to see, though, that he’s enjoying rides with his human, the wind ripping through his rainbow-colored coat.
