If passed, the Electric Bicycle Incentive Kickstart for the Environment (E-BIKE) Act would effectively reduce the cost of your next SUPER73 by 30 percent (up to $1,500). E-bikes have the ability to displace automobile use by keeping people moving with efficiency and ease, no matter their age or physical abilities, and help offset the carbon emissions caused by traditional commuting. We encourage you to reach out to your House representative to co-sponsor the bill; if you don't know the representative of your district, you can find that information here: https://www.house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative.
Or you can take action by visiting PeopleForBikes here: https://action.peopleforbikes.org/e-bike-act.
If signed into law, the bill would offer you a refundable tax credit on the purchase of your next SUPER73. The tax credit would:
- Cover 30 percent of the cost of a SUPER73, up to $1,500, for e-bikes that retail for less than $8,000.
- Be allowed once per individual every three years, or twice for a joint-return couple buying two SUPER73s.
- Allow those who do and don’t report income to be eligible.
The bill also mandates a report from the Internal Revenue Service after two years to understand the distribution of the credit by income tax bracket and adjust for equity in the future.
